The Different Types of Facial and Muscular Flaps
Cutaneous flaps include skin and subcutaneous tissue. A facial flap includes fascia with no overlying skin. Muscle flaps usually require additional transfer of a skin graft to cover muscle. Alternatively, muscle can be transposed as part of a muscular cutaneous flap. Examples of bone flaps include a free fibula and a free iliac crest.
