The Importance of Understanding the Approximative Causes

Economists tend to get it wrong in a lot of ways, but before we do that, I think one of the reasons why understanding the approximate causes is useful is that it helps with kind of hypothesis generation. So when we think about this ovation, if we understand dopamine and how it works, then kind of unexpected praise is more rewarding than kind of expected praise. And so that may be why the non-monetary rewards also have a bigger impact than monetary rewards.
