I think the United States is fascinating in this, because it's a democratic society to its bones. It cares about the opinions of the majority. And also, it's a society of loners and pioneers and independent spirits. This is not an anti-democratic message in the voting sense. It's about a democracy of the spirit. You know, when a child is two or three years old, it blessedly doesn't really care what anyone thinks.
