How Do You Direct People in Portraits?

i use my intuition to i guide me, in terms of when it feels to me like that person is being themselvesm. Oftentimes i'll capture somebody doing something that i could never a thought up in my own head to do. It's just a product of them feeling comfortable, feeling safe in this faceum. I'm not dragking people a ton, but i'me making a sort of suggestions, and then r like trying things. And there's something to be said as an artist for not having any preconceived notions about what you're photographing.
