We're complicated animals, am we? We havent got anywhere near the bottom of human behavior and how it works. It's very a tempting to view evolution as the sort of forward looking process. But of course, evolution is just what happens as a consequence of what happens. Some individuals are able to successfully reproduce and leave descendants, and some individuals aren't. And then if you look from the point of view of the next generation, o no of them looking backward say,. well, there were certain things that meant people were good at breeding and reproducing and leaving genetive descendants, and other things that were not so good.
