The Paranoia of Pavlovian Science

The historian Jack Pressman has argued that it was the Pavlovian School of Experimental Physiology that really became sort of the master discipline of, of medical science. But there's a whole kind of layer of paranoia surrounding Pavlovian science because as the Cold War got underway and West became increasingly alarmed by accounts of what was being done to dissidents in Eastern Europe or American prisoners of war in Korea. Even somebody like Hannah Arendt and the origins of totalitarianism seems to buy into a certain view that it is Pavlovianscience that the totalitarian, totalitarian regimes are using to break down people.
