Introduction
U.S. President John F. Kennedy gave his blessing to the Bay of Pigs invasion in 1961. The aim was to provoke an uprising that would bring about the overthrow of Fidel Castro. Within hours, the invaders had come under heavy fire and two of their ships had founded. Far from storming inland to a popular welcome, the axiles were bogged down on the beaches.
