The Three Flavors of Music History

The monumental or exemplary history is as translated in my book being the sort of like what my colleague Dan Malamad likes to call the Beethoven. The antiquarian, especially people who are involved in early music performance practice, recreating how music would have been performed on original instruments. And then there's the critical side, which is going to be highly critical of those other two modes. So you can see these three ways of approaching the past and I think the Nietzsche was right on and I couldn't think of a fourth, right? so yeah.
