The Gospel of John - Characterization

The gospel of john uses historical figures like peter, the mother of jesus. But almost more important than what it tells about them as actual people is how it portrays them as literary characters. The idea is that the characters are representing larger archetypes. And this became really meaningful to me because i realized that these different characters represented different ways that we encounter the lord and respond to him.
