The Evolution of Mice at Extreme Altitudes

Mice climb to the icy windscoured summits of greater than 6,000 meter Andean volcanoes for reasons that remain mysterious. What would you think they need to do to really understand what's going on here now? If it's possible at lower elevations, say in Lincoln, Nebraska, or maybe a little higher elevation in Missoula, Montana to get set up breeding colonies of mice. Of course, that's nothing in evolutionary time right now. Unless you're a virus.
