The Master Story of American Politics in This Age
Polarization is the central story of american politics in this age, and it's a string. It's a stranger story than i think we give it credit for. If you look back to mid 20 century America, what we were fighting over was so much wider than it was now. The parties weren't that sorted psychologically, but now they are. And this just goes all the way down the line. Then you become rationally more afraid of, upset at, angry at, in opposition to the other side. I think, more than anything else, that is why politics feel so different to people.
