The Puritan Tradition of Thanksgiving
People used to dress up in costumes and go begging for food and candy at thanksgiving, not halloween. This was sort of like a precursor to trick or treating, ecause there was no trick or treating at the time. It continued in new york city until the 19 fifties in some neighborhoods. And if you look on mine, you can atually see photos of kids in the 19 Fifties dressed up in te sort of beggar costumes.
