There's a tendency to think that if a scientist is kind of getting their hands dirty when it comes to advocacy, that they're overstepping the mark. So we see this in conservation science, in climate science and in part, there's this expectation of the value free ideal. We might tell you facts which are useful for decision making, but even then, as I've just pointed out, what counts as the facts depends on what you set your standard of evidence to be.
