The Importance of the War in Britain
A lot of war rhetoric was used by the people who wanted to leave the EU. The war became this sort of very useful tool to say, look, what happened when Britain was last alone? We all went swimmingly, which is nonsense because we had a gigantic empire and huge royal navy. And it's become a myth that is endured and being exploited by the right wing since. So I just got very frustrated with the sort of narrowing of perception of the people who'd served in the war.
