The New York School in England
I met three of the four members of the New York School together and it was very, very moved to have done so. I think this book may conceivably be what Elliot called images in a locust classic is that people will turn to. English poets have always sort of semi-welcomed in the New York but then after a while they've got very tired. Peter Porter used to praise Ashbury but doesn't do so as often as he used to. Alan Jenkins too declared himself a convert to the anti-ashbury camp having been pro-ashbury. It's a real pleasure to be in this book shop because part of it because London Review has always been quite supportive of
