I think the DUP found itself in a very difficult position because the party had championed Brexit, perhaps caught in the bright lights of London. But they perhaps didn't fully think through the fact thatBrexit was going to require a border somewhere. And there was always going to be opposition to a return to a hard border on this island between Northern Ireland and the Republic. It's 25 years since Northern Ireland had direct rule from Westminster. It's a very different place today. Last year it elected its first ever nationalist first minister designated.
