The President's Political Lens on the Debt Ceiling

I think the president viewed all of this through a political lens instead of demonstrating leadership and saying let's sit down and work this out. He gambled that the House Republicans couldn't come up with a plan. They did. In fact, it's the only plan on the table. And my hope is that they realize they might not have leverage here that they thought they had. We never should have passed the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill last December. Had we said no, that would have started the discussions between President Biden and Speaker McCarthy immediately.
