In the 19 fifties and 19 sixties, we were averaging around 3.5 million days a year lost to industrial action. In the 19 seventies, that goes up to nearly 13 million. And it's much worse tan our competitor countries. We lose more days to strike action in the seventies, two and a half times as many days as the french lose,. 11, 12 times as many as west germany loses. So there is a problem with industrial relations in britain. That was most obviously manifest when it was the miners, because our power stations were mostly coal wrung at that stage. By nine 74, you've got petrol shortage, as it were
