The Law of Control
Mitchell Stark caught the ball while above the ground. He then put his hand palm down on the ground with the ball in his hand. That's how the law is written to be considered in control of your body. If you elbow hits the ground, the ball comes out, not out. So I think that decision was correct. It can't be considered out because he's avoided the risk of losing the ball by using the ground to do that. Shoring control of it, he's holding it firmly in his hands. The same conditions don't apply. You have to control the body as well.
