Is the British Government Responsible for the Famine?
The famine was essentially caused by the british government, says mer kari. But for a complicated mixture of political, ideological, religious reasons, those resources were not used. In 18 forty six public works were introduced, which was a very harsh relief measure. The other inappropriate part of this measure was that these public works were to serve no purpose except to act as a test of destitution.
