Complications of Intertrochanteric Fractures
Short implants can have optional distal locking screws. Long implants are recommended for standard obliquity fractures. Implant failure and cutout is often the cause of an inadequate tip-to-apex distance of the screw placed. In young patients, a corrective osteotomy and or a revision open reduction internal fixation may be performed whereas in elderly patients, total hip arthroplasty is often the better option.
