Consuelo Cantisani grew up in a tiny village in southern Italy, and she knew early on that she wanted to study languages, perhaps inspired by the trips she would take with her father, who traveled constantly for work.
When she was around 14 years old, she left home to move to another town in Italy to study English. Later on, at 19, Consuelo moved to London, where she spent a decade studying, working as an interpreter and Italian teacher, and building a life in one of the world’s busiest cities.
Eventually, Consuelo grew tired of the city’s chaos, the cost of living, and the grey skies, and she felt called to a different rhythm. A trip to South Africa changed everything, and off she went again to start a new adventure in another country for the second time.
Today, Consuelo lives in Cape Town, runs a Brazilian coffee distribution business, speaks multiple languages, and has even brought her family over. In this conversation, we talk about migration, identity, reinvention, entrepreneurship, and why she’s more afraid of a “flat” life than of taking big risks.

I've always loved the meaning this word can have. To be a transplant is to carry one life while learning to live another.
