The Levites and the Promised Land

The Levites are scattered throughout the Holy Land. They were especially selected by God to serve him at the tabernacle and guard his word. I think although I can't prove this, I wish I could, but my suspicion is that they were scattered across the Holy Land so that they wouldn't be just concentrated in one area. But because they were especially selected for their holiness, I suspect that's the reason they were scattered throughout Israel.
