Is the Fed's Credibility Questioned?
The Fed's credibility has been questioned anyway because of them being so late to fight inflation. But then everyone was asking, where were you on banks supervision? Why didn't you see what was happening to bank balance sheets as a result of your aggressive action? So that's where they've shorted up the problem. If you look at how the bailout took place, it looks like it was a very politically motivated thing. It could have been done in the private markets and they chose not to. They're probably going to try to bottle this thing up as quickly as possible.
