How to Treat a Left-Middle Finger Central Slip Injury
A boutonear deformity or DIP hyper-extension is caused by central slip disruption and lateral band-volar subluxation. Diagnosis can be made by a thorough physical exam with a positive Elson's test. A central slip or a zone 3 extensor tendon injury can occur after hyperflection injuries, direct blunt trauma or penetrating trauma to the digit.
