The SEC's Crypto Crackdown
The SEC began their crypto crackdown in 2017 by outlawing ICOs or initial coin offerings. The majority of ICOs turned out to be vaporware or simple scams, taking advantage of gullible retail investors. There are over 10,000 crypto tokens trading today, and the SEC has only gone after a few of them as unregistered securities offerings.
