Why NASA Fake a Moon Landing?

The reasons that NASA might have wanted to fake a moon landing are actually quite sound. If America had not landed on the moon by the end of the decade, I think it would have been nationally embarrassing in a sign of national decline. The embarrassment of being discovered would have been way worse than the actual faking. A wonderful movie called Capricorn One came out in the mid-1970s and captured why the general public lost interest in moon landings after the first one. It's a wonderful fictional tale but sometimes in fiction we can see some real reasons.
