Opposition m ps put forward a motion this week to launch an investigation into boris johnson's handling of the contempt case. But support for that amendment evaporated on Thursday morning, and in it backin the labor motion is admitting that the prime minister misled the house. It's remarkable to me that the government so tas ended up where it probably should have started - with a free vote rather than whipping their n ps to oppose the motion.
