The Christmas Star
There was a very interesting sequence of visible events between 3 BC and 1 BC that many people say was the Christmas star. And in fact, this is favored a bit by Christian theologians. I've puzzled for years as to why. It's because it doesn't pull in the astrological component as strongly. In a way, there's this whole mythology built up around the idea of the star Bethlehem being this conjunction of Jupiter and Venus. But unless you were looking for it, you wouldn't notice it.
