The Expansion of the Underground

The Metropolitan Line has a lot of stations, but not nearly as many stations across the whole network as there are today. How and why did the underground manage to expand anyway? Well, they were clever. I mean, obviously the interwar years saw the rise of the commuter. What a commuter really wants is an efficient and organized network that could transport them from their home in the suburbs into the city.
