The Northern Island Substitute Teacher Register
Northern island has what's called nester, the northern island substitute teacher register. Every substitute teacher that we have in northern island has to be on that ster am in order to be paid and employed. Schools pay about 200 pounds a day for a supply teacher. Agencies take a third of that fee so it leaves generally working for about an hundred and 20, 25 pounds a day. So there'll be fewer teachers who can teachor support pupils supporting schools. It's a really big ask to ask them to go back into that classroom. What the government should have done is made schools safer, so we have less teacher absence. We'll talk about that in a moment.
