What's Different About Science?

The political power over science is something that we tend to ignore. And even the political power tells a story where it's legitimate because it is the most scientifically valid, or something like that. Once we have constrained the validity of science, ah, to what it actually does and does, well, we start having to ask this question about, ok, so is ther something as fundamental as that in our society that can succeed?
