The Advantages of Extended Fusion to the Sacrum in Osteoparatic Patients
The advantages of extending the fusion to the sacrum is increased stability of a long fusion construct. Disadvantages includes increased risk of pseuto arthrosis, increased surgical time and increased reoperation rate. Cement augmentation is indicated in osteoparatic patients. The technique will involve a cement injection through a fenist rated tap at the end of the vertebra,. followed by pedical screw insertion.
