The History of the Magna Carta
The first Magna Carta is 1215. But of course, that was a failure. How does it survive? It's because John dies October 1216. The minority government of Henry's nine-year-old led by William Marshall Earl of Pembroke realized the only way forward is to accept what John had rejected. In many ways, his rule was congruent with the charter, what it wasn't was wise. And the charter doesn't stop him doing all these stupid things. So in a way, the revolution of 1258 is to fill the gap left by the charter.
