Distilled Spirits - A Case Study
Distilled spirits became very important to indigenous people. Alcohol consumption, even in the form of breoed drinks, was not widespread. Other intoxicating substances, like tobacco paote other kinds of rugs and practices created altered states of being which consuming alcohol does as well. So that's one of the reasons why, to various indigenous societies, distilled spirits were an attractive and high valued commodity.
