Is There a Way to Orchestrate the Sequence of Failures?

If you're sceptical about the scientific method, surely you're not farting around totally randomly. So is there a way to orchestrate the sequence of failures in a way that's more likely to yield good explanations? There has to be some method to the madnessr eht, yes, there is. But i think that's a big question. And so learning that we have the ability to fail as non-catastrophically isn't an issue at all. I mean, failure is just the end of the road for science - it's not the end of everything.
