Is This a Good Signal for Malware Detection?
The variability itself can be a useful signal for detection. In 33% of the samples, there was enough variability across these four traces that traces of the same sample ended up in indifferent different clusters. The accuracy of these things is likely to be lower than you might expect if you only look at one, one trace per sample. This variability ist inherently risky. But it potentially could be one useful signal for figuring out if something islikely to be malicious or not.
