How Can People Afford to Emigrate?
During the famine yo er, it was a very price sensitive movement. People would turn to go where they got the cheapest furs. Some landlords in ireland wanted to get rid of their tenants, so they would pay for their tenants to go. We know that about 400 of them died on the passage. So even if you were paid for to go, it didn't guarantee thato would survive.
