Senators have told reporters that an agreement could be reached soon on legislation. Red flag laws, which allow guns to be temporarily taken away from people who impose a risk of harm to themselves or others, are one of the few gun control regulations that by partisan support. Social science research suggests they work most strikingly in preventing gun suicides.
