The South Boston Riots

On October 10, state troopers were patrolling the halls of South Boston High School. There was an endless stream of brawls between whites and blacks in South Boston and Hyde Park high schools. The governor then mobilized 400 National Guardsmen. But something else was happening: Black parents were reporting their kids were bringing home textbooks for the first time.
