Cephalopod eyes started out as light sensitive skin cells that folded inwards to form the structure that they have now. The cuddlefish has one of the largest brain to body size ratios all in vertebrates. There's a certain amount of communication that takes place through the use of their colorful skin, which can lighten and darken rapidly.
