The Role of the Solicitor General in the Federal Investigation of Michael Cohen

Neil Kachal: When I ran the Solicitor General's Office, I basically viewed my job in a non-political way. My job was to represent the interest of the United States and that didn't change depending on which president was there or not. The Southern District prosecutors indicted Michael Cohen, put him in jail, and said in their sentencing memo, this wasn't Cohen's own plot. It was at the direction of Donald Trump. But how did that change afterward? And we know Merrick Garland used special counsels for other probes where that went is the open question.
