June, August and September have historically been the weakest calendar months of stock market returns over the last 50-plus years. The so-called Halloween effect then kicks in from October onwards when stocks generate the bulk of their annual returns over the coming winter month. Current trends favour precious metals such as gold given the clear declining trend of the US dollar.
