The Importance of Britpop in the 1990s

Britpop was crucial, I think, in helping to reshape our feeling about ourselves. It was upbeat and it was accompanied by this explosion across the other cultural manifestations. You had John Galliano and Alexander McQueen working for French fashion houses. And you had the rebirth of British film, Four Weddings in a Funeral. This stuff was big and important, the young British artists. But did the mid-90s really produce a unique flowering of creativity across the yard?
