The idea comes from looking at our universe and seeing things about it that we can't explain. One way to make it seem less arbitrary is to imagine that maybe every value of those numbers exists. So that's the idea of the multiverse. It's a fun idea, but right off the bat, i should tell you that nobody knows whether that's true.
