History of Christianity - Is Religion a Moving Target?
In the history of christianity, i guess 50 or 60 years ago, what i do would have been called ecclesiastical history. The work which has been published there in another places now is a much broader definition of religion. And it's become something of a buzz phrase among historians. So i think this is a rather good thing, although, of course, it's a challenge to all of us... Religion has become extraordinarily messy. It always was, but it's taken us some time to see that.
