Cathedrals are getting larger by the end of then saxon period. They're tending to tail off after the black death for all sorts of reasons, because money is tighter and the population is smalland there aren't so many clergy. Then you get the reformation. The church loses a lot of property. And also public opinion begins to turn against cathedrals. A lot of people think they are superfluous or their vestiges of catholicism which we ought not to have.
