Nuclear Energy - What Are the Different Types of Waste Products?
When we take the fuel out of the reactor, it can be separated basically into three types of waste products. The standard way in this country has been to rep cess the nuclear fuel rods and put the fissiing products and the neutral activation products into a glass. This is a process called vitrification. You can dissolve up the nuclear fuel rod in acid and then separate the heavier elements like uranium and plutonium. And are these radioactive element quite stable within this glass? As far as we can tell, they seem to be pretty well stable in the glass.
