In the 18th century, if you read any Jane Austen, you'll see that pugs are really popular with fashionable ladies. We have a huge upsurge in the popularity of Balsoi at the end of the 19th century. And this is part of this moment where everything Russian seems really exotic in western culture. But yeah, we're very susceptible to being influenced by what's hot in culture right now.
