How to Listen to a Person Speaking at the Same Time
The first part of your brain to light up when you're listening to somebody speak is are these just big swaths of your brain behind your ears. But once that sound is speech, all of that gets funnelled into this really small network am on the left side of your brain. So if you and i both started telling a story simultaneously, people could hear our voices, but they'd have to focus on one at a time. And unfortunately, as far as your brain is concerned, your silent voice is a process exactly the same as an outloud voice. You got to either pay attention to the reading or the speaker, or jump back and forth and miss information from both.
